Any VW fan is familiar with the rich history of the Volkswagen Golf, which started out in the U.S. under the Rabbit nameplate. It was subsequently switched to the Golf to fall in line with what it was called elsewhere, but this had no influence on the vehicle’s ability to continue flourishing. Now, the 2018 Volkswagen Golf is set to continue its success in Elgin IL here at Elgin Volkswagen. What new features have been added to keep it fresh?
Each trim level of the VW Golf, the S, SE and SEL, has been upgraded with new features, while retaining many of the great ones that users could experience last year. There are also minor adjustments to the look of the model, with a fresh appearance to the front bumper that is reminiscent of what we’ve seen in the off-road capable Golf Alltrack.
Features | Safety | Power |
Automatic headlights | Automatic post-collision braking | 1.8-liter turbo 4-cylinder engine |
Standard 6.5-inch touchscreen | Intelligent crash-response system | 170 horsepower |
Car-Net App-Connect w/Android Auto and Apple CarPlay | Crash-optimized front end and pedal controls | 199 lb-ft of torque (184 lb-ft with 5-speed manual) |
New Chrome Grille | Available driver assistance features: Front Assist, Blind Spot Monitoring, Lane Assist, Light Assist, ParkPilot, and Park Assist | 5-speed manual or 6-speed automatic |
The standard features we know and love – heated side mirrors, VW Car-Net App-Connect, Bluetooth with audio streaming, a rearview camera and multi-function steering wheel – all remain present in the base S trim level of the 2018 Volkswagen Golf. Why not make it even better? Standard LED taillights and daytime running lights have been added into the mix, providing more daytime visibility in overcast weather. You’ll also note the addition of other conveniences like automatic headlights and rain-sensing windshield wipers.
Stepping up to the SE trim means a larger 8-inch touchscreen system, increased from the 6.5-inch that was standard for 2017, while retaining features like V-Tex leatherette upholstery, Front Assist, Blind Spot Monitor, a sunroof and keyless access with push-button start.
Finally, the SEL comes in with larger 17-inch wheels, 8-inch touchscreen navigation, an auto-dimming rearview mirror and automatic cruise control, along with dual-zone climate control, comfort sports seats, ambient lighting and a 12-way power driver’s seat.
